Search Engine Visibility, Appearance and Usability in Web Design

This article is the beginning for discussing some of the subjects that a web designer needs to consider when creating a website that must exist and compete in the real world.

Appearance is not much important topic

Over the years dealing with newcomers to web design, they tend to focus extremely on the appearance of a website. However, as hard as it may be to believe, appearance isn’t the most important thing to look at when you are designing and creating your site with more useful information’s. Not saying that appearance is off no importance. The main purpose is to address the excessive importance newcomers place on beauty.

Take Google as an example in point. It is, for the most part, plain-looking. But one can hardly argue with its success. This is not necessarily the case if you oversee the other important matters in web design.

Usability is an important topic for you to achieve your goal

Every site is created for a certain purpose. Some were created so that their holders can sell something. Others are information resources. Quiet others are designed to display their owner’s talents (such as sites displaying the holder’s resumes and portfolios).

The usability of your site is important because, it will help you to achieve your determination. The basic question that you need to point out when dealing with usability is: can your visitors easily entree the information they need so that they can do the substance that you want them to do? There are relatively a number of things intricate in this question.

  • Information, data Availability

Is the information that your visitors need to make informed choices available on your site? For example, before they can buy goods, they will want to know more about that product. A short one-line summary about your product’s features will be working for your main page, but you will possibly find that you get more buyers if you can provide a link to a page that gives a complete list of features of each of your products.

  • Information, data Accessibility

Not only must your information be offered to your visitors, it must be simply accessible. A page that gives a detailed explanation of your products is not going to help your visitors if they have to work hard at finding it. In fact, if visitors have to work at finding something on your site, they are not going to find it. Moreover put the information right under their noses, or put a link to it in that place.

  • Navigation direction

A decent direct system for your website is essential. Through a navigational system only visitors can move from one page to another. Navigation bar or panel offers shortcuts to places where visitors are likely to want to go. Don’t push your visitors to have to go through your main page every time they need to visit another page on your site. In fact, put direct links in reasonable places — for example, on your “Products” page, you must have a links to your “purchase / flat offers” page as well as link to the pages with thorough information about individual products. Imagine like a visitor and ask yourself what are the things a visitor might want to know or do when he/she is at a certain page.

Search Engine Visibility is Your Site’s Lifeline

Apart from the links generated by the JavaScript menu, there were absolutely no other links on your site pointing to other pages within the site. Since search engines bots can’t take JavaScript, they could not monitor any links and could thus only index your main page. As a result, the pages were not listed in searches for your keywords, leading to a drastic drop in visitors.

This is a problem fairly easily fixed, but it illustrates one of the most important subjects a real-world website faces: search engine visibility. If your site is not registered in the search engines, you’re not going to be able to get many visitors, if at all. Without visitors, you’re obviously not going to be able to achieve your determination for the site.

Designing a site that is search engine ready is a long topic, so I am not even going to try to speech it here.

This article is about the significance of factoring usability and search engine’s willingness into your web design. Usability is important because it progresses the chances that your site will help you to achieve your purpose. Search engine visibility is vital because without it, you will get few visitors. Plan with these two aspects in mind, even as you look into the presence of your site, and your design will go far in helping you to reach the goals for your site.
